Lighting (Interior, Exterior, Landscape)for Muskoka and the Golden Horseshoe.

LED retrofits, pot lights, smart lighting, exterior and landscape lighting - and dock/pathway lighting for waterfront properties.

Context

Lighting - interior, exterior, landscape, and waterfront.

Lighting work is the category that has changed the most in the past decade. LED has eaten incandescent and halogen entirely, smart switching (Lutron Caseta, Lutron RA3, and the broader Matter-and-Thread ecosystem) has matured into something that actually works, and dimmer compatibility has become a genuine problem - a lot of older dimmers, especially the lower-end ones, will not drive modern LED drivers reliably and homeowners end up with flickering, buzz, and dimmer-incompatibility issues that nobody warned them about. Our lighting work spans the boring (replace a fixture, swap a switch) all the way to the substantial: full interior LED retrofits on commercial sites where the payback is measurable, whole-house smart lighting layouts with neutral conductors run to every switch box where the original wiring did not have them, and full landscape and waterfront lighting designs for Muskoka cottages where the dock, the boathouse, the pathway, and the tree-uplighting are all coordinated.

Interior work covers pot light installs (old-construction shallow LED cans where the ceiling cannot be opened, full-cut new-construction in renovations), pendant and chandelier installs (including the high-ceiling and stairwell jobs that need a lift), under-cabinet and toe-kick lighting, accent and cove lighting, and the controls layer on top of all of it. Smart switching is the part most people get wrong on the first attempt - cheap Wi-Fi switches with no Hub story tend to age badly and most do not have proper UL or CSA certification. We default to Lutron Caseta for whole-home smart switching (rock-solid radio protocol, no internet dependency, the best dimmer compatibility in the market), Lutron RA3 for larger homes that need more zones and tighter integration, and Philips Hue for bulb-level colour and scenes where the use case actually demands it.

Exterior and landscape lighting is where the Muskoka work gets interesting. Waterfront properties want path lighting, dock lighting, shore-line lighting, tree-uplighting, and boathouse lighting that survives a Muskoka winter and the wet-and-salty mix of cottage living. We default to CSA-listed marine-grade fixtures for anything within ten feet of the water, GFCI protection on every outdoor circuit, proper grounding back to the panel, and low-voltage transformers sized to the load with 25% headroom. For commercial parking-lot and exterior building lighting we work LED conversions where the payback is real (most cases) and full new installs where the existing kit is end-of-life.

What's included

Every job covers the basics.

  • ·Interior LED pot light install (old-construction and new-construction)
  • ·Pendant, chandelier, and stairwell fixture install
  • ·Smart switching - Lutron Caseta, Lutron RA3, Philips Hue, Leviton Decora Smart
  • ·Whole-home LED retrofits with dimmer compatibility audit
  • ·Landscape and pathway lighting (low-voltage and line-voltage)
  • ·Dock, shoreline, and boathouse lighting (CSA marine-grade)
  • ·Commercial LED retrofits with payback documentation
  • ·Exterior building, parking-lot, and security lighting

What we fix

Common issues we handle.

New LED dimmers flickering or buzzing

Driver / dimmer mismatch. We carry the compatibility charts and swap the dimmers to a known-good pairing.

Add pot lights without opening the ceiling

Old-construction shallow LED cans, planned around joists, with dimmer planning before install.

Outdoor lighting that keeps tripping the GFCI

Usually a fixture with degraded gasket and water in the wiring compartment. Fixture-by-fixture isolation and replacement.

Cottage dock lighting in a Muskoka winter

Marine-grade fixtures, GFCI, and proper bonding. Done right it lasts a decade plus.

Our process

No surprises.

  1. 1

    Design conversation

What you want lit, what mood, what control. We sketch and quote.

  2. 2

    Compatibility check

Dimmer, driver, smart-switch, and fixture compatibility before we buy materials.

  3. 3

    Install and tune

Install, dim, set scenes, train you on the controls.

FAQ - Lighting

Things people ask.

  • Yes - and it usually pays back inside two years on commercial sites and three to four on residential. Full fixture swaps, retrofit kits where the housing is reusable, and dimmer compatibility checks (a lot of older dimmers will not work with modern LED drivers; we identify and replace those at the same time).
