FAQ

Electrical FAQ — Ontario homeowner and business questions, answered.

Every question on this page comes from a real customer call. ESA permits and inspections, FPE / Stab-Lok panel swaps, load calculations for EV chargers, generator sizing for cottages — covered below by category. If your question is not here, call (705) 242-9090 or send a note from the contact page.

We are an ESA Licensed Electrical Contractor (ESA/ECRA-7017877) headquartered in Huntsville, with 309A Master Electricians on every truck and active work across Muskoka and the Golden Horseshoe.

  • Yes - retail, office, and restaurant fit-outs across the Golden Horseshoe. We coordinate with your general contractor, landlord, and the AHJ; we pull the ESA permit; and we schedule rough-in and final inspections so you can open on time.

Service & Panel Upgrades

  • Common signs: a 60A or 100A panel feeding a modern home with an EV charger or heat pump on the way; breakers tripping under normal load; an FPE Stab-Lok or Federal Pioneer panel (insurance flag); rust on the meter base; or aluminum branch wiring. If your insurer asked for an electrical inspection, that is also usually a panel-or-service conversation.

EV Charger Installation

  • All major brands - Tesla Wall Connector and Universal Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, FLO Home X5, Enphase IQ EV Charger 2, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Grizzl-E, and JuiceBox. If you already bought a unit we install it; if not, we will tell you which one actually fits your panel and use case.

Generators & Backup Power

  • Up in Muskoka the short answer is usually yes if you have a well pump, septic pump, or a freezer full of food and the line goes down for two to five days every winter. In Hamilton and Burlington the case is weaker but still real - ice storms, summer thunderstorms, and aging grid infrastructure mean four-to-eight-hour outages a few times a year. We size to your actual load, not the maximum.

Service category

Lighting (Interior, Exterior, Landscape)

  • Yes - and it usually pays back inside two years on commercial sites and three to four on residential. Full fixture swaps, retrofit kits where the housing is reusable, and dimmer compatibility checks (a lot of older dimmers will not work with modern LED drivers; we identify and replace those at the same time).

Industrial Electrical & Controls

  • Yes - 600V three-phase service, distribution, and equipment installs for shops, manufacturing, and warehousing across Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Burlington, and the Hamilton industrial corridor.
